This page is dedicated to raising money and awareness for humanitarian organizations world-wide. I am currently making tie dyed t-shirts to sell for fund raising. An online order form will be available soon, but contact me if you would like to pre-order. Thanks for your interest. Thank you for being aware of your world.
Myanmar (formerly Burma) has suffered tens of thousands people dead, thousands more missing, and over a million homeless from the recent cyclone. Lack of food, water, and shelter are only exacerbating the emergency. Now that some humanitarian aid is being allowed into the country, this is the time to help.
A few weeks ago, I decided I must do something to help the victims in Myanmar affected by the cyclone. Raising awareness is one thing, but to transition to concrete help, that’s making a difference. However, I soon realized that few people in my community had even heard of the crisis, and those that had were preoccupied with the rising cost of gas to consider donating. Convinced that any fund raising would be pointless, I gave up.
Then it hit me, people may not donate money, but they will buy cool t-shirts that happen to benefit relief efforts. These t-shirts are tie dyed by hand. Each shirt is one-of-a-kind with 100% profits going to charity.
So be aware of your world.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon met with Myanmar officals today to try to convince the government to allow more aide into the country (AP). I’m frustrated with the government’s lack of initiative to protect its country’s people, but I won’t give up my fundraising efforts. Some relief organizations are filtering their money and supplies to Myanmar’s neighboring countries which are being granted access into the devastated areas with help. However, only an estimated 25% of victims have been reached. With over 2 million people affected, that’s a big statistic!
I’m hoping these t-shirts sell well. They look really awesome, but the cause is more important than just making cool shirts.

This is great: “Myanmar’s ruling junta agreed Friday to ‘allow all aid workers regardless of nationalities’ into the country to help cyclone survivors” (CNN).

I have another batch of shirts ready to sell next week. I’m thrilled with the great response this has gotten. To explain about this project a little bit more….
I get frustrated at school when people harangue about this or that humanitarian crisis, and how we need to raise awareness. When I heard about the cyclone, I was upset with the way things were handled. I was even more bothered by how little people new or cared about the disastor. Sure I could “raise awareness,” but that seemed pointless as it wouldn’t help anybody. That’s why this t-shirt project seemed a great compromise. It’s raising awarenss, but it’s also doing something.
There are many humanitarian, economic, social, etc issues around the world. The constant ebb and flow of tragedies makes it difficult to care about and help them all. That’s why the “Aware of Your World” slogan. You don’t have to fix every crisis that comes along, just be aware of it. And when something touches your heart, do something about it! If you’re disgusted by the treatment of baby seals or upset by the hungry children in third world countries, maybe that’s where you can focus your energy and do some good. Just be aware.

Thanks everyone for your help and support! We raised much more than I expected, and I’m thrilled to have been a part of this relief effort. Again, thank you so much for contributing in so many ways.
